How to play Political Compass Game
Choose one of the 30 character profiles on the game page.
Answer the 20 statements as yourself.
Compare your point with the selected character on the economic and authority axes.
Read the explanation under your result. A smaller distance means closer coordinates.
Educational game purposes
This project is designed for educational game purposes. It encourages reflection on political values and can help you prepare questions when considering how to vote. A character match does not tell you which candidate or party to choose. Compare current policies and reliable sources before making your own voting decision.
What does the number mean?
It is distance, not a test grade.
0 means a perfect overlap. As the number rises, your coordinates move further apart. Ten means opposite corners. A result of three is simply three distance points — not three correct answers out of ten. There is no pass or fail.
The compass-match percentage is a visual restatement of that distance: 100 minus ten times the distance. It is not a percentage of shared answers, scientific accuracy, moral approval or agreement on every issue.
Exact means exact
An exact match requires identical economic and authority coordinates before any rounding. A very small positive distance is never labelled zero. With the current twenty statements, coordinates move in half-point steps. The score is calculated from the grid; it is not an estimate of shared political beliefs.
The full formula is 10 × √((your economy − character economy)² + (your authority − character authority)²) ÷ √800. A score of 3.6 is approximately 36% of the full diagonal. Different quadrants alone do not determine the score. Detailed calculations are available under every result.
Reading the compass
The horizontal axis compares collective economic provision with markets and private ownership. The vertical axis compares individual autonomy with concentrated state authority. Every small square is one point. Your position is a white diamond; the selected character is a black circle. The dashed line makes the gap visible.
Thirty personalities
Compare historical figures, contemporary politicians, entrepreneurs and story legends. The lineup includes Franco, Einstein, Napoleon, Gandhi, Mandela, Thatcher, Churchill, Martin Luther King Jr., Pinocchio and Alice, followed by Putin, Obama, Harris, Vance and Kennedy. Every profile has an image credit and a source for further reading. Their grid coordinates are editorial interpretations, not answers supplied by those people, actors or estates. Historical inclusion is critical comparison, never endorsement.
Question sources and limits
Twenty statements and their economic/authority weights come unchanged from SapplyValues under MIT. There are ten economic and ten authority items, with balanced positive and negative weights. Each axis is normalized to −10…+10. Distance is Euclidean distance divided by the maximum corner-to-corner gap and multiplied by ten.
This is a shortened adaptation with an independent character-matching layer. It is not the complete SapplyValues test, a validated assessment, a party recommendation or a judgment of your character. Historical periods and fictional stories do not fit neatly onto a modern two-axis grid.

Each profile suggests a real book: biographies for real people and classic stories or memoirs for screen and literary figures. Amazon links open a book search; editions and availability vary. A clearly disclosed referral tag is added only if the publisher configures a valid Amazon Associates account.
